Thank you Calgary for making our 2007 campaign a huge success!!

You have shown that you truly care by helping United Way create a great city for everyone through your involvement, your actions and your contributions.

Together we raised $50.7 million that will help United Way of Calgary and Area address the city’s social issues. This year's campaign has been a group effort made possible by the efforts of several volunteers, workplaces, families and individuals throughout Calgary and area.

At the campaign achievement announcement on January 10, 2008, co-chair of the 2007 campaign – Barb Higgins thanked the many volunteers, organizations, and individuals who have helped United Way achieve its largest campaign outcome ever. “Our goal this year was $50 million plus. Calgarians have shown they care with a monetary commitment, plus they got hands-on by learning more about the issues, volunteering their time, and raising their voice that poverty and other social issues are not acceptable in our city,” said Higgins.

“We’re very proud of the people who worked in our campaign cabinet this year. Their leadership and energy helped us achieve our goal. Their involvement was key to inspiring Calgarians to lend a hand,” said Doug Haughey, co-chair of the campaign cabinet. “We have encouraged Calgarians to get caught red-handed by doing something good for their community and my colleagues on cabinet certainly have led the way.” United Way invests in initiatives and services that help address social issues. It works with community partners and makes a long term commitment to find lasting solutions to poverty and its related issues. “The support of individuals and businesses in Calgary is vital. With their help, we will make Calgary a great city for everyone,” said Ruth Ramsden-Wood, President and CEO of United Way of Calgary and Area. “Every donation – of time, expertise or money – takes us one step closer to helping our neighbours to become stronger and more independent,” she added.
