All In for Girls
All In for Girls is a strategic initiative that supports Calgary girls to complete high school with confidence, connections, and choices. Led by the WLC, All In for Girls is a sub-strategy of All In for Youth, a citywide initiative that focuses on reducing high school dropouts in Calgary by 50%.
In 2013, the WLC commissioned the report Success on the Horizon. This report examines the challenges faced by girls in both growing up and completing high school. It also highlights the opportunities to overcome those challenges.
Supporting Teen Moms in Our Community
Since 2011, the WLC has been committed to supporting the needs of young moms and their children. This initiative aims to address the basic needs of young moms, so they and their children can be successful in school and adulthood.
Through collaborative efforts involving young moms, various Calgary agencies and United Way staff, the WLC has identified barriers to success and developed recommendations to support these women and their children. Thanks to a donation from TransCanada Corporation on behalf of retiring executive Sarah Raiss, the WLC was able to commission a report on these issues: Seeds of Success: Seeking solutions for teen mothers and their children.
Being a young mom should not stop a woman from having a positive impact on the world she lives in – but it could. We believe all children are born with the potential for healthy, happy, productive lives. Supporting young moms not only helps them have a more successful future, but also helps their children to achieve the same.
