Grocery donations get turned into super-donations

groceries-gift-card-donationFlood-affected families in High River and Calgary are getting help with groceries, thanks to generous gifts from the Windermere Oilmen's Golf Tournament and W. Brett Wilson.

These philanthropists donated over $50,000 to United Way of Calgary and Area for families who need help with basic needs at this critical time. United Way then turned these donations into super-donations by working with Loblaw's Real Canadian Superstore.

The company generously offered its President's Choice gift cards at a discount, which stretched $50,000 into nearly $60,000 in gift cards.

These cards, worth $500 each, will help cover the costs of food, gas and household items as families get back on their feet. Half of the cards are being distributed to families in High River, while the other half are going to the Distress Centre and CUPS for distribution in Calgary. Nearly 120 families will benefit.

Thank you to the Windermere Oilmen's Golf Tournament, W. Brett Wilson and Real Canadian Superstore for investing in our community!
