In celebration of National Child Day, our community is raising awareness of the rights of children in our city and area through the 2013 National Child Day initiative.
What is National Child Day?
National Child Day is celebrated annually on November 20th and is specially designated to mark two historic events: the 1959 signing by Canada of the United Nations Declaration of the Rights of the Child and the adoption of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child in 1989.
Events in Calgary
Calgary’s youth and child serving community has engaged in the first city-wide approach to the celebration. While many different festivities will be occurring throughout the city, we are asking everyone across our city to wear blue.
This year’s focus is on our children’s right to be heard. By wearing blue as we celebrate National Child Day, you will be showing your support for children’s right to be considered when decisions are made that will affect them.
