At the 5th annual Plane Pull on September 18, hundreds of Calgarians came together to set a new record, raising $130,000 for United Way of Calgary and Area.
With over 40 teams pulling the 200,000 lb. UPS plane, cheering crowds, a petting zoo, face painting, and food trucks, this was a fundraising event like no other that will see all funds go directly into the community.
In a year where United Way is concerned about increased demands, Dr. Lucy Miller, President and CEO of United Way of Calgary and Area says events like these are so important, not only to help raise money for vulnerable Calgarians, but to mobilize our spirit and passion for our city.
“Last year, over 177,000 Calgarians, almost 500 individuals per day were supported through United Way programs and initiatives,” Lucy said. “We know the need is great this year, and it’s so important for us to come together and address the social issues facing our city. Anyone can be vulnerable, and we need to have everyone on board.”
A huge thank you to presenting sponsor UPS! This was the fifth year UPS has presented the event; their support ensures no donor dollars are used to host the plane pull.
Thank you as well to this year's host Jermain Franklin from TSN for making it a fun and memorable event!
