November is Family Violence Prevention Month. This issue is an urgent one in our community, as Alberta has the second highest rate of domestic violence in the country. In response, United Way of Calgary and Area is working with our partners and investing in solutions that make families safer.
In 2011, we funded 36 programs and initiatives related to domestic violence. We invested $3.5 million in intervention and prevention programs, including crisis counseling and support for those impacted. As well, we invest in the development of violence prevention curriculum for schools.
We believe a city is truly great when it's great for all. This starts at home, where people need to know they are safe.
