United Way of Calgary and Area is proud to announce that Rick Hanson, Chief of the Calgary Police Service, and Dawn Farrell, President and CEO of TransAlta Corporation, are United Way's 2013 Campaign Co-Chairs.
Hanson has over 38 years of policing experience, and has close ties to local organizations that support youth, homeless people and victims of domestic violence. He has long advocated for addressing social problems at the earliest stages. "I'm thrilled to volunteer with United Way," he says. "I've seen firsthand that when we tackle social problems together, we create a ripple effect that benefits the entire city."
Farrell has over 27 years of experience in the electric energy industry, holding roles at TransAlta and BC Hydro. TransAlta’s relationship with United Way dates back to the early 1940s, and Farrell says she’s looking forward to building on that history. “Our employees make a difference in their communities and are big supporters of the United Way both here in Calgary and in their local communities,” she says. “It’s an honour to be part of the 2013 campaign here in Calgary.”
The Co-Chair role is a volunteer position, and United Way President and CEO Dr. Lucy Miller says she's excited for what's in store with Hanson and Farrell spearheading the campaign.
"We're honoured to have such passionate community leaders on board," Miller says.
