United Way of Calgary and Area honoured the city’s top workplace philanthropists at its annual Spirits of Gold awards ceremony February 14.
More than 60 organizations were finalists for Spirits of Gold awards, which commemorate outstanding workplaces that contributed to a $55.2 million campaign in 2012 — the most successful campaign in United Way’s history.
“Clearly, Calgarians are passionate about coming together and making this a great city for everyone,” says Dr. Lucy Miller, United Way’s President and CEO. “These awards are our way of recognizing organizations who make a lasting difference in Calgary, not just with their donations, but also with their time and creativity.”
Twenty organizations received awards at the ceremony, ranging from large energy companies to social agencies — a cross-section of the 1,000-plus United Way workplace campaigns run in the Calgary area last year.
“Calgarians from all walks of life recognize we have a shared responsibility for our collective future,” says Miller. “At United Way, we are so grateful to be part of such a generous community.”
