WHAT WE DO
WHAT WE DO

The Chestermere Partnership’s funding focus is building capacity in areas of health and wellness, intergenerational connections and multi-cultural inclusiveness.
A senior citizen living on her own took in a boarder to help make ends meet. The senior also accessed the food bank. When she arrived at the Food Bank to pickup her hamper, she was extremely upset, and sobbing. When she saw the hamper she was about to get she could not contain herself. The woman started to speak about how grateful she was, and how the food would help make things at home better. She went on to confide in a worker at the food bank that her boarder had not been paying rent and had become abusive towards her. The senior wanted him out, but did not know how to go about it without causing harm to herself. The senior spent more time with the worker and the stories she told became very scary. The food bank worker was able to connect the senior to community services who became involved and developed a plan to try and protect the senior from more harm. They were able to help her with the necessary support to ensure her safety and help her develop the strength she needed to make changes in her life. The senior has made these changes and is now on the healing side of her predicament. The senior required just one more food hamper after getting the support of the Community Resource Centre. She is no longer a client at the Food Bank.Chestermere Mentorship Program;
