Mike MacSween was appointed Suncor’s executive vice president, Upstream in 2017. In this role, he leads all of Suncor’s operated and non-operated oil sands, in situ, and exploration and production assets.

Since joining Suncor in 1996, Mike has held a variety of leadership roles including vice president, Upgrading; vice president, Strategy and Development; and senior vice president, In Situ. Mike most recently served as executive vice president, Major Projects where he was accountable for the safe and cost-effective engineering, procurement and construction activities for Suncor’s growth projects in the upstream, downstream and renewable energy portfolios.

Prior to joining Suncor he held positions at Betz Process Chemicals Inc. and Shell Canada Inc.

Mike serves on the Board of Directors of the Canadian Welding Bureau, Go Productivity and he joined the United Way of Calgary and Area Board of Directors in April 2017.

Mike holds a bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering from the University of New Brunswick and a master of business administration from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario.

Mike has been a member of the United Way Campaign Cabinet and is currently a member of the UWCA Board Public Policy Committee and the UWCA Board Community Impact Committee.
