A Guide for Partners in Flood Recovery

United Way of Calgary and Area's vision is a great city for everyone. As a community leader, we know that what affects one part of our city affects us all.

By distributing funds through the Emergency Community Support Fund, hosting Action Tables with local funders and agencies and sharing this solution focused report, we have helped our city transition from recovery to resiliency following the 2013 flood.

United Way of Calgary and Area is using our experience and expertise to help inform United Way's and other organizations across Alberta of best practices for application to the wildfire recovery process.

This report brings together promising practices from comparable disasters that have occurred across the world over the past fifteen years, as well as local data on the Calgary flood and recovery. It explores key areas that are likely to be major challenges following a natural disaster:

  • Basic needs
  • Housing
  • Domestic violence
  • Mental health
  • Recovery planning and management.
