For people living on low incomes, tax time really can pay. In many cases, they must file a tax return to be eligible for government programs and benefits.
These programs and benefits can relieve some of the financial stress felt by ALL people living on a low income by saving them money, putting more money in their pockets or by providing services they would not otherwise qualify for.
United Way has teamed with a number of local organizations to make sure they, and the people they assist, know about the following government programs and benefits - and the importance of filing an annual tax return.
During tax time, several partner organizations provide information and application forms for these programs and benefits during their tax clinics.
Help is also available for people living on low incomes who need assistance completing their tax return or canít afford to pay to have their tax return completed. The Community Volunteer Income Tax Program assists in completing simple tax returns.
