The Small Business Initiative supports small and mid-size businesses in their efforts to contribute time, talent or treasure to the community through the work of United Way.

In 2006, the volunteer-led group helped organize a week of activities with keynote speaker, David Grayson, CBE, one of the UK's most respected voices on business social responsibility. Grayson provided practical tips on how to build long-term relationships with businesses and facilitated discussions about challenges organizations face and how to overcome them.

This week of activities was hosted by Good for Business - Good for Community, a collective of Calgarians who believe that business people and entrepreneurs have a role to play through their work life in making our community a better one. United Way is a member of this collective and shares the belief that corporate social opportunities can have an important influence on our world.
