Ken's life changed. After losing his job, Ken couldn't afford to feed his kids and pay rent. Read his story

Jim is a retired professional engineer, formerly a Senior Research Advisor in Imperial’s Oil Sands Development & Research organization. He graduated from the University of Manitoba with a BSc in Civil Engineering and has spent his entire career in the oil and gas industry. Over the past 36 years he’s had the pleasure of working in both technical & managerial roles in rural Alberta and Saskatchewan, in Nova Scotia on the Sable Offshore Gas Project and, for the last 10 years, on the Kearl Oil Sands Project based in Calgary.

Jim is married with two children. He enjoys spending time with his family at their condo in Windermere, B.C. experiencing the many golfing, boating, biking, hiking and skiing opportunities. He still plays recreational hockey and stays active with projects around the house. Despite originating from Winnipeg, he considers Calgary to be his home and joined the Leaders Cabinet in 2015 to make a difference in this community.


Dave has worked in the energy industry with Shell Canada for the last 25 years and currently leads a team that licenses Intellectual Property and Technology globally.

During his time with Shell, he and his wife Laurine and their three sons have had the opportunity to live and work in a number of locations within Canada and overseas. These moves have left lasting impressions and with each return to Calgary they are reminded that it is one of the greatest cities in the world to live. The Fillo family continues to support United Way because they know firsthand the great work they do and for Dave it is important to ensure that all people living in Calgary have an equal opportunity to be successful.

Dave has been active on Shell’s United Way Executive Committee for the last 6 years, is a Director of the Branch Out Neurological Foundation and enjoys playing soccer, biking and being outdoors. He joined the United Way Leaders Cabinet in 2015.

Trevor currently holds the position of Business Development Manager with ATCO Power, an experienced builder, owner and operator of independent power generation facilities. Trevor is responsible for identifying and evaluating growth opportunities for the business. Prior to his current role, Trevor held a variety of positions within ATCO Power in the electricity marketing, strategic planning and business analytics groups. Trevor graduated with a BSc in Engineering from the University of Alberta and is a member of the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientist of Alberta. Trevor brings his professional leadership and expertise to his volunteer role on the Leaders Cabinet.

Tina is a community volunteer who comes from an earlier career in publishing, management consulting and executive recruitment. After holding the position of Editor for a Toronto performing arts magazine, she completed her MBA at the Richard Ivey School of Business, Marketing and Communications, and shifted her career to management consulting in the financial services sector and, later, to high level executive recruitment in the US. Past contract work includes that of Marketing Specialist with the Calgary Chamber of Commerce and, recently, Interim Manager of Leadership Giving with United Way. With the arrival of her three children, Tina has committed her interests toward community volunteer work in a variety of capacities.

Tina is highly engaged in a number of leadership volunteer roles in the community. This is Tina's second year as a member of United Way's Leaders Cabinet and she is excited about the leadership growth opportunities and the start of yet another exciting fall campaign.
